“This article provides a translation and a critical analysis of Khaled Sendawy’s work regarding Mustabsirun (individuals who convert from Sunnism to Shi’ism). Adopting an analytical-critical approach and utilizing library-based research, digital inquiry, and interviews with several converts, this study scrutinizes Sendawy’s arguments concerning the phenomenon of religious conversion from Sunni to Shia Islam. The findings suggest that many of Sendawy’s claims regarding the existence of Istibsar (conversion driven by insight) are either unsubstantiated or contradict available empirical evidence. Furthermore, even if his claims were valid, Sendawy fails to account for the significant diversity and frequency of other converts. In this article, Sendawy attempts to negate the very existence of converts by characterizing them as manufactured or artificial Shi’ite figures. However, this study argues that, firstly, some of his criticisms directed at specific converts are misplaced, and secondly, the denial of a few isolated cases does not invalidate the phenomenon itself or the vast, documented evidence to the contrary. Finally, the study concludes that Sendawy’s reliance on Quranic verses and Hadith is methodologically flawed and lacks scholarly rigor.”“A significant portion of Sendawy’s assertions regarding the Mustabsirun lacks rigorous documentation and often relies on unsubstantiated personal conjecture. Notably, these claims are frequently attributed to an individual identified as Omar al-Dosari—an obscure figure whose identity and scholarly standing remain unrecognized within the academic community.”
